The science behind Biologi & how high-performing plant actives work on the skin.

Biologi pride itself on being the first truly ‘natural’ skincare brand.

All products are free from artificial ingredients and you won’t find anything in Biologi that doesn’t benefit the skin. They don’t add synthetic emulsifiers, fragrance or even water. But the reason they’re different isn’t because of nature. It’s because of science.

If you’re wondering HOW Biologi can do what other brands can’t…here’s the science behind the products on your shelf.

THE RESEARCH

While you might have only heard about Biologi recently, the brand has been built on a solid 12 years of research into plant actives, extraction techniques and plant and skin cellular function.

Biologi founder, Ross Macdougald used his depth of knowledge and experience as a formulating chemist for some of the world’s biggest brands to truly understand what the skin needs to thrive and how he could create that through committed plant research.

He learnt that the function of the skin cells most closely resembles plant cells and the nutrients, micro nutrients and phytoactives that exist to protect and nourish plants could therefore work on the skin just as they do in the original source. But only if the extraction process was effective.

It was during this research Ross learned how plant phytonutrients are produced, stored and kept stable within the plant making them readily available to use when needed.

“What many people don’t know is that most active nutrients found in traditional skincare products are notoriously unstable.”

THE EXTRACTION TECHNOLOGY

It was based on this information that Ross developed the CLECS II extraction technology, the first of its kind developed and built in Australia.

This technology can replicate the plant’s internal processes by also extracting the liquid matrix (PNP) that flows throughput the plant to protect and stabilise the nutrients once extracted.

What many people don’t know is that most active nutrients found in traditional skincare products are notoriously unstable. Once extracted and exposed to air or water, they rot rendering them useful. Skincare brands have been using workarounds for years where they create synthetic versions in a lab (such as ascorbic acid) or add toxic ingredients to keep them stable.

THE PLANT ACTIVES

With the research leading them to a foolproof extraction system, the world is now their skincare oyster. They’ve taken the common problems experienced by consumers across the world and combined this with the plant actives that specifically target the problem such as anti-ageing, antioxidant protection, hydration and reducing the impact of sensitised skin.

While many products labelled ‘natural’ sit at approximately 2% activity, Biologi serums are all 100% active to change the function of the skin on a cellular level making results faster, more noticeable and longer lasting.

THE VITAMIN C

Vitamin C is a popular ingredient in skincare as it’s highly effective at reducing the signs of ageing, building antioxidant protection and reducing redness and sensitivity. Unfortunately, it’s not widely known among consumers that that traditional extraction methods leave vitamin C inactive within approximately 30 minutes of exposure to air or water.

Vitamin C extracted using traditional extraction methods therefore requires stabilising with synthetic ingredients and is formulated in a lab and know commonly as ascorbic acid (or a version of).

Biologi is the first, and so far, only brand in the world to access this revolutionary extraction technology required to provide consumers with pure, untouched active vitamin C.
